Building  Human Capacity

We are here to build much more than an endowment, that’s why we’ve partnered with Artisan, Chena Gilles, to send you a special gift made in Ayiti. Make a contribution between May and December 2019 in the amounts below, and we’ll send you beautiful heart-shaped rocks made with love by Chena and her team!

Meet our partner

Chena Gillesis an artisan entrepreneur based in Cormier, Leogane. She has been sculpting soapstone since 1996. She debuted the heart collection in 2010, after Ayiti’s devastating earthquake. She designs and collaborates with international designers to create unique products that are sold globally.

As a woman, Chena is keenly aware of the needs of her village and serves as an agent of change. Though they all have independent businesses, Chena often recruits her siblings and other community members to work as a ‘konbit’ (cooperative). Her business employs close to 20 people, both men and women. Chena has survived domestic violence and carries the great responsibility of providing for her family. Her work enables her to support her family’s needs while also building a strong intercontinental enterprise.

Our Mission

Ven Pou Ven is a campaign initiated by the Ayiti Community Trust (A.C.T.) inviting Haitians in Ayiti (Haiti), the diaspora, and all friends of Ayiti to join a community of investors dedicated to building Ayiti’s assets. Our goal is to raise $20 million to establish the first endowed community foundation that is led by Haitians across the globe and driven by the needs of Haitians in Ayiti.

The Ayiti Community Trust (ACT) is the country’s first endowed fund, building on Haiti’s assets and driven by Haitians’ local needs while providing resources for sustainable solutions. ACT is registered in Haiti and operates as a grant-making community foundation.
